John: It All Comes Down to This

“It is finished!” was the cry from the cross on that dark afternoon. Jesus declared the work completed – that we can be saved from the wrath of God’s righteous justice. Amen, and hallelujah!!! In our gathering this weekend, we’ll take a few moments to marvel at what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Having faced the agony of physical death and unthinkable spiritual separation from the Father, Jesus endured the immeasurable penalty that was due us. Because of the cross, we can be fully forgiven… unless Jesus, shrouded in literal death and sealed in a frigid tomb, remains dead. But our text this Sunday, John 19:28-20:18, tells us the Resurrection story of how Jesus conquered sin and death so that all the promises of everlasting Light and Life and Love are eternally real. Jesus is Alive!
