John: The Prayer, Pt. 2

In this week’s section of The Prayer (John 17:6-19), our Savior will ask the Father to unify and sanctify his disciples through the truth of God’s unfailing Word. He prays this knowing that his followers will be surrounded by a world of people who hate God and who will offer up their own version of “truth.” But Jesus’ prayer will win out for the disciples because they belong to Jesus. As we hear what Jesus prayed for the people in the room, let’s listen for the promises contained in the passage for us today, and let’s be grateful that God is so completely invested in the salvation of his people that the perfect Son of God would ask the all-powerful God of the universe to accomplish what is already promised. Bask in the radiance of God’s glorious guarantees!
